Sir Noble von Rooster &
Lady Adorabella von Hen

As a teenager, after strict instruction in perspective drawing from a teacher, I had to learn, in a way, how to draw all over again. My first “proper” drawing was a bird. Since then, I have taken thousands of photographs of birds, kept pet birds, and eventually they also found their way into my paintings.

The Tingatinga art movement, originally from Tanzania (and one that many professional artists do not particularly value), captivated me immediately when I first encountered it. Its abundant forms and colours, as well as its sense of storytelling, are exactly the elements that speak straight to the heart.

These images feature two paintings that mark the beginning of the love story of Sir Noble von Rooster and Lady Adorabella von Hen. As you can see, they begin their courtship by sitting on different branches of the same tree. The works are therefore two separate paintings which, when placed side by side, form a single tree trunk. When displayed separately, the paintings are connected to one another by a metal chain.
